Sleepathon: An Overnight Glandathon Experience

SLEEPATHON is an overnight experience by LINDA MARY MONTANO. Embracing a workshop format, participants will sleep together in the gallery as a work of art. Attempting to dissolve the boundaries between art and life, Montano continues to actively explore her art/life through shared experience, role adoption, and intricate life altering ceremonies.

The workshop fee is $60 and includes tickets for the 7PM Rapid Pulse program (including the GLANDATHON), a seat at the STǓ pop-up supper, a place to sleep, and coffee or tea in the morning. All skill levels are welcome but space is extremely limited, advance registration highly recommended: www.sleepathon.eventbrite.com.

LINDA MARY MONTANO (US) is a seminal figure in contemporary feminist performance art and her work since the mid 1960s has been critical in the development of video by, for, and about women. Attempting to dissolve the boundaries between art and life, Montano continues to actively explore her art/life through shared experience, role adoption, and intricate life altering ceremonies, some of which last for seven or more years. Her artwork is starkly autobiographical and often concerned with personal and spiritual transformation. Montano’s influence is wide ranging – she has been featured at museums including The New Museum in New York, MOCA San Francisco and the ICA in London.

Linda is a performance artist whose practices include endurance;  blurring the edge between art and life; witnessing the inherent humor of the human situation; death;  recognizing the autobiographical need to fix life through art; the aging body; changing the mind; and  using Catholic imagery to speak to the mystery of the everyday.
